Writing Task - 2
Young people are often influenced in their behaviours and
situations by others of the same age. This is called “peer pressure”. Do the
advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Peer pressure: - influence of similar age group.
·
Peer: - a
person who is of the same age or position in society as you.
·
Starting line:
- companionship and making friends with the same age group has become
prevalent among youngsters.
Positives
v Peer can set good example for each
other and can encourage each other to make choices that benefit them. To
exemplify, if a peer group values academics achievement, they can influence
those around them to study harder and get ahead in school.
v It can make children try out things
that they are uncomfortable with and this can raise their self confidence and
make them more flexible.
v This can also be helpful in
abandoning negative habits.
v Provides the sense of support and
belonging.
v Support through challenges fruitful
in facing traumatic or difficult events that affect emotional well - being.
Negatives
v In order to conform,
(adjust/follow/to fit in) youngsters may engage in self destructive behaviour
like smoking, abusing drugs, drinking alcohol, shoplifting etcetera.
v The influence of similar age group
may flow their good academic opportunities and results in making poor decisions
that ruin their career.
v It can cause drastic change in teen
behaviours and children can develop bad attitudes or unkind demeanor (behaviour),
Which in turn may lead to even more rebellious behaviour among children.
v Peer pressure promotes herd mentality.

them to think independently

Stifles
their creativity, innovation and growth.
v It can cause one to lose their
identity.
v It can rob individual’s
self-confidence.
